The Legal and Regulatory Affairs Team is made up of a team of 10 qualified lawyers plus the Chief Legal Officer and Deputy University Secretary, who leads the Division, whose role is to provide timely, high-quality legal advice across Imperial’s areas of operations, supporting our colleagues to deliver Imperial’s strategic objectives.
The lawyers in the team routinely advise on over 30 substantive areas of law and are divided into two sub-teams, one of which focuses upon corporate and commercial affairs and related work and the other on a broad range of general advice, including student and regulatory matters.
The team includes specialists in property law, employment law, commercial law as well as generalists. The team is responsible for sourcing and instructing external counsel when that is required, ensuring value for money is delivered for the University.
In addition to the lawyers in the team, the Legal & Regulatory Affairs Team includes the Director of Safeguarding, the Head of Regulatory Compliance, and the Legal & Regulatory Affairs Operations Officer. The regulatory team is responsible for proactively identifying and managing the delivery of key regulatory compliance matters for Imperial, such as the OfS Conditions of Registration, the Prevent duty, Freedom of Speech and safeguarding, and providing assurance to UMB and Council that these matters are appropriately managed across the University.
